Instructions:

For the Emmental cheese sticks, put the flour in a bowl and make a well in the center.

Crumble in yeast, add sugar and some lukewarm milk and stir to a pre-dough and let it rest for about 10 minutes. Heat the remaining milk, add margarine, salt and cheese to the pre-dough and knead to a dough. Cover and let rise for about 30 minutes.

Line a baking tray with baking paper. Preheat oven to 190 degrees. Roll out the dough thinly on a floured work surface and divide into 3 cm wide strips.

Turn each end of the dough strips in the opposite direction with your hands. Place cheese sticks on the baking sheet and brush with egg yolk and sprinkle with poppy seeds or caraway seeds. Bake in the oven for about 12 – 15 minutes.

Let the Emmental cheese sticks cool down and serve.

You can also sprinkle the Emmental cheese sticks with other seeds as desired.
